V-tec noise
Hi,
I am looking for a s2000 at the mo after being the victim of an oap murdering my silverstone 99. When i had my car i noticed that in high v-tc ther was a rattle, but i lived with this thinking it was a characteristic of my car, this time round i have driven three more cars all of a simler age 99/00 and mileage between 70 and 80k, is this normal? am i anal? should i worry?. Any help will be gratefully received.
Cheers.

Past my bed time.
Hard to explain the sound, and as i dont have a car at the mo cant rally record it...
It sounds mechanical!!

Don't normally hear that under VTEC if it's the TCT.
Could be a heashield but i'd make sure you are certain of what it is before buying.
It's not from the gearknob is it? This is common.

Heatshield is quite possible and of course nothing to worry about.
This may rattle when the car is stationary (but revved) so an easy one to diagnose, as it were.
You can only check out other examples to see if it is a 'feature' or a defect...
Maybe there are some s2ki members near you who you can meet up with?

Hi,
Cheers for the advise guys!!! You can only hear the noise with the roof up and at high revs in the v-tec i have driven my own car and two others since and all have it, i am scared it could be the tct, what are the symptom there?? Also if there is anyone in the Stafford/midlands area in a similar age car that would take me for a spin i would be very grateful!!!
Cheers,
Russ.

The TCT is very easy to change, so if it is this it's not a big problem.
