So I'm running my car in as per instructions. Am revving up to 7k but I'm still not getting that VTEC kick like I did in my ATR. Oil level is spot on, I'm getting the sound effects (gotta love that scream), but no kick.
Is there something wrong with my car?

 

By all accounts, the kick is more descernable on earlier cars (<02). I notice it mostly in 3rd gear on my MY00.

Is there someone near you with an S who can go for a spin with you ? There have been instances of VTEC not engaging (unlikely) due to an engine sensor needing a really good smack.

 

I have got an 03 car and it certainly has kick!

During run-in, you should be below 6k rpm IIRC and not above

Once my car hits 6k the change is noticeable but not huge. The car is fairly linear until 6k, then a little then at approx 7.5k its huge, all the way to the nice red

Wait until it is run-in properly and then test it, but please no until 600 miles

 

Am now up to 700 miles, so no worries re. reving too soon. Guess I'll have to wait a wee bit longer to feel the full effects. On the ATR it kicks at 6.5k, so I guess I'm used to that surge a little earlier.
