Default VTEC failure ?

.......might still be the case, again.

Going up hill, clear road, very damp though.
NSL road and Golf doing about 40mph in front of me so I drop it to third and floor it.

As soon as the cam switch over should come all power was lost, ABS and CEL came on for a split second and I had to let the Golf go passed on the inside so I could pull over and see what had happened.

As soon as I came to a stop the engine stalled / switched off.

Quick look under the bonnet and everything still seems to be in the correct place.

Go to start the car again, turn the key and all seems normal, press the button and all the electrics turn off. Turn key again and all is fine, engine sounds a little rough but that could be the ECU learning again ??

The windows had reset to manual only, but the stereo still held the security code and station preset data.

Any idea what has happened ????

That's pretty much what mine did when my speedo convertor was drowned. Not sure what would be causing yours however.

Don't think so

Oil is 1 notch from the top, checked yesterday morning and driven 15 miles since.

Sounds like a fuel problem - might have been your fuel pump on its way out, exactly the same thing has happened to me and it was fuel pump.

Although didn't have any problem with my windows, but then I wasn't in an NSX!

Are your battery terminals tight ?

This happened to me in an Alfa once and it turned out the negative lead was loose.
