Default vtec hesitation

did a search and found various threads about map sensors etc.. just wondering if I can give it a tap here at work or if its best left to the workshop?

also I had an oil warning light come on the other day whilst on a steep hill, checked level and it was a bit low but nothing drastic, would that light just have been to the incline?

thanks for any help

I really am no expert on these things but I have read on other threads that low oil can effect the vtec engagement and as you are saying its a bit low, sounds like it could be the problem.

Its most likely to be the MAP sensor. Happens to mine regularly.

Get something with a non metallic handle (like a screwdriver), I have however used my mobile phone before ...and give the MAP sensor a few sharp taps.

As if by magic..the car responds perfectly.

You don't have to take the sensor off

check oil level
remove map sensor and refit
stick in opti
re-set ECU

I think that should clear it

I had this a stuttering and hesitency in VTEC.

Read about the old map sensor thing and laughed to myself..............."that will never work.............."

Gave it a tap with a screwdriver handle and its been fine since!!!!

The dealer would probably do the same but charge you

hehe, I can't wait to try this

sounds too good to be true

reminds me of a squeal I used to get in my scoob, sounded like the front diff was going, all the symptons etc.. took it to a garage and they said it was a big job, one guy suggested top up the power steering before parting with my hard earned - five quid later and my car was perfect again.

does make you wonder about garages :S

thanks for the great advice btw

It's in the tech faq.

If you had an oil light you've likely got problems. That should only come on when the pressure drops dangerously low. I would get it checked out asap
