Default VTEC issue

Apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't find anything in the search

This morning I was starting a journey with a short run down the M25. As I drove down the slip road I opened it up in 2nd and as the cams open at about 6k, the engine suddenly lost all power like it was severely engine braking. It pushed me forward in the seat it was that sudden.
Dipped the clutch, no warning lights, engine still running. Put it into 3rd and it was fine.
It has done the rest of the journey home to Manchester without issue.
The VTEC was fine coming out of the M6 Toll road later on

I know the oil level was fine as I had just checked it after a long drive on Sunday. Could it just be the engine wasn't warm enough, or could it be another (more serious) issue please?

Coolant temp too low that prevents vtec engagement.

That sounds like you've hit the Rev limiter, no?

Or your vtec oil pressure switch is dodgy, pop it off give it a clean and pop back on. Be csreful of the pins... the plastic trim couldve cracked and a loss of connection for a secknd or ao may give you the no vtec available that you experienced, usually the ecu light pops on but worth a check anyway i guess

My bet is on this, especially as it hit vtec fine later on. Just remember to warm the car up properly before vtec'ing! Also, remember it's cold this time of year so takes longer to warm up.

It was almost that kind of feeling, but it happened at just over 6k

Sounds like the car is too cold. Also just because your coolant is up to temp doesn't mean your oil is, so you shouldn't be vtec'ing Just because the coolant is hot.
This becomes more evident when you have gauges like myself

It's a special feature that ensures people who give a cold engine a proper bootful of throttle post thread on here, so that the rest of us know not to buy a car off you
