Ian that's harsh you was young once be it a long time ago hahaha
curious
how does the gearbox and diff oil get warmed up if they aren't moving???
Watch "Gearbox operation with clutch" on YouTube

They are moving. Simples.

Warming on idle isn't a problem for the engine really. With cold oil at engine start you will have 85psi no problem and be lifting the bypass valve on the pump. When the idle drops it goes down a lot but cold oil means high pressures.
Agree with Toby on the gearbox thou. It needs to be moving to warm it up. Mine is especially clunky when cold. It needs the friction

Starting the car and letting it warm up before driving gently until everything is at operating temps... probably 6miles or so at a guess.. is no issue.
We are talking a few minutes at most from cold start at idle, letting the idle settle, the engine oil warm and prehaps a little warming of the gearbox oil...
starting it up and driving right away will cause potentially more engine damage due to the cold engine and cold oil. Most damage is done in the first 10mins of driving iirc... due to cold oil cold engine.... metals expand when warm shrink when cold so you could say han when cold seals are prone to leak....
Ill stick to allowing her to warm up before driving steadily.... all my cars had high milage and kept the same routine. Lets hope its the same with the s. The box is notchy when cold once its warm its a pleasure.
