I wouldn't say it was cold, more tepid

Like Tangoray said, won't be doing that again. I'll look for a bigger gap when joining from a slip road.

I've done this once before, never again. Definitely the cold engine rev limiter

I idle mine for a couple of minutes before setting off in the morning... the car definitely works best when all fluids are warm like gbox, diff engine. Its like an animal needs waking up lol

Trouble with that, WoblyGIT, is your running the engine with low oil pressure when idling (although I can't imagine it's a big deal) and then when you set off, the rev limiter is effectively disabled, but everything other than the engine is still stone cold but able to be thrashed up to the full 9k.

Now standing by to be roasted by those who actually know what they're talking about.......

Wow easy SlimJim... :-)

I dont thrash ot at all.... I just allow ot to warm throriugh before setting off..... even when temp bars are up i wait until gbox feels smoother and tyres feel better before I open her up :-)

always best to warm through and fully defrost your meat before consuming and enjoying.... be safe SlimJim x

I've always heard that it's best to start and then set off (not caning it obviously) instead of sitting there idling for a length of time.

That's what I've always been told too, but I mostly just wanted to disagree with WinkyGUMP

Usually run at least 3-5 miles before opening it up, there is nothing wrong with a bit of mechanical sympathy.

Remember, the coolant temp is the absolute minimum. You want the oil to be up to temp before thrashing it, hence the 3-5 miles I tend to perform.

How exactly is driving a car when it's still cold a lot like making love to a beautiful woman?
