Default Welsh Roads...

Hi all, am off to Wales for a long weekend in February and would like to know if there are any decent roads that are worth making a detour along. Heading from Newcastle to just north of Cardigan, sat-nav suggests joining the A483 to Welshpool then along the A470 and A44 to Aberystwyth then the A487 to our destination of Ceredigion.

Cheers for any suggestions people may have.

You're spoilt rotten for good driving roads in Wales!

If you don't mind a little diversion on the way down there, the evo triangle is on the north side of the A5 starting near Cerrigyudrudion. Then there's the A494 south of the A5 down to Bala, a really nice fast and flowing A road.

The one thing you simply MUST do if you're further south is the A4069 Black Mountain Pass across the Brecon Beacons. This runs from Llangadog (just off the A40) to Upper Brynamman. This is easily one of the most scenic and breath taking road in the area. Please don't miss out on this!!!

B4391 is a road you should look at. Personally i think its a much better road than the EVO. Lot more suited to the S.

Evo triangle is a very bumpy road in places

Cheers for the replies, will check them all out on Google Earth and will tell the wifey that there are shops at the end of each road! Just hope the weather will be dry enough to be able to make the most of them

I found part of it very rough too, certainy had the s twitching a bit. The wider, faster flowing leg of it was just mega though

We stayed not far off the B4391 near Llangynog, drove it 4 days in a row! Had an awesome, well cambered hairpin that you can really get stuck in to

Believe this is also the same chunk of road, but a little closer to Llangynog village. So much fun, we're looking to go back this Summer

Oh yes there are some mega parts to the EVO.

The run through the Forests from Cerrigydrudion to Llyn Brennig are brilliant too, much smoother than up top. There is a massive straight through the forest leading up to the cattle grid up top, parking half way along and listening to the cars... love it

The evo triangle serves one great purpose. It keeps the other better roads quiet
