Default What is the difference between a JDM engine and a UKDM engine

Hi just wondering if anyone knows the exact difference's between the two, I spent a couple of hours searching the forum and the info seems to be sketchy some say the higher compression is from the piston some reckon it's a thinner head gasket, i've just done a health check on mine which is a JDM, compression check, visual bore inspection, leak down test and a dyno check, while doing the bore check the No on top of the piston is PCX-00 when checking a UK engine the No was PCX-A01, but when i did a search for info on the pistons all i can find in current parts list's is PCX-A03 and the statement this part replace's PCX-00 and A01 so are they all the same piston, just curious for if i ever need to do a rebuild, i'm not to good on the computer side so finding info can take hours so any help would be appreciated,,

Cheers Ray

I think that's the longest sentence I've ever read.

The current pistons I see here in North America for the 2.0 liter engine is 13010-PCX-A02 PISTON SET A (STD) or 13020-PCX-A03 PISTON SET B (STD). I don't know the difference between A and B. Don't see a A00 or A01 listed and saw a note that stated A03 replaces 13010-PCX-A00, 13010-PCX-A01, 13010-PCX-A02. These are nearly $200 each and we need four (4)!

The 2.2 liter cars are different and have PZX- part numbers. Also two sets. I suspect the second set is a revised version.

The difference between A and B pistons is their size which affects the piston to wall clearance. The B pistons are 0.01mm larger diameter

One of the main reasons for asking is to find out whether the higher compression is achieved from HC pistons, combustion chamber or head gasket thickness, the threads i have read all have different opinions.

I think JDM had higher compression, but that is all I know, and it may have been only the earlier cars

The only difference the JDM cars have in the engine are the pistons, that's where the higher compression ratio comes from. The rest of the engine is identical. The part number of the pistons will vary depending on the production year, Honda made several revisions on the pistons and rings

The increased compression of the JDM F20C (11.7:1 c.f. 11.0:1) is as a result of the use of a thinner head gasket
