ok so i am thinking about importing wheels but want to sort all costs that i could come across. i have googled and found that import tax for wheels is 4.5% is this correct? and will i also have to pay VAT

whats the best way of going about ordering from the US. when i had parts from japan they came as 'sample parts' does this mean i will pay less tax? i have also been told about asking for them to be sent as a 'gift'

any info would be much appreshiated as i am new to all of this

See here for a duty calculator http://www.dutycalculator.com/

Let's say your wheels plus delivery and insurance cost $1500
This is converted £1000
Then duty of 4% is added, so that's £40, giving a total of £1040
Then VAT of 20% is added, to the £1040, which gives £1,248
you may then get a fee from the delivery company for "processing" - should be less than £50

You can get good sent as "spares or repair" which will avoid the duties, but if they inspect, you may get stung anyway.

Do make sure that whatever you get is fully insured - any damage or loss will only be compensated to that value.

I used Lsdmotorsport when i imported my Enkei RPF1s from the states and they were great, definitely recommend them

I asked them to put a low value ($200) on the paperwork so the import duty wouldn´t be too bad so it came to £43

I agree with OLLIeCRX the prices for new wheels in the UK is ridiculous just now, it makes sense getting them from the US or a second hand set as Floppy says from the UK.

I forgot about this thread!!!

I also used LSD, can't remember if I mentioned that above. Wheels from
Order to my door in 5 days... Yet it took a retailer locally 3 weeks to get a set of LM reps delivered 40 miles.

I've some LM reps on mine purely because the Tyres were good, until I get the cash to buy some enkei nt-03m's

Iirc my rpf01 wheels came to £830 / £840 all in to my door without Tyres.
