Default Wheels

So I have decided to hold on to the S for another year.

To make the winter months a little easier, I think the best way would be to fit winter tyres. I would prefer to buy a separate set of wheels for these really. This means I can use the opportunity to possibly upgrade my standard 16s.

Are the 17s much better in terms of ride and grip? Should I be changing the tyres on the 16s and keep them as the winter tyres and then switching to the 17s for the summer month?

I want to stay OEM so does anyone have a link to a site that shows all of the different alloys that Honda made for the S2000?

cheers
Mark

Guess you have OEM 16's but these are the others available. (think there are 6 spoke versions of the OEM 16's but import only)

04-06 17's

06-07 17's

08+ 17's

I would keep the 16's for winter, with winter tyres and keen the 17th for summer. If you do slide anywhere, less change of kerbing a 16 as deeper side wall than the 17's.

that's what i would do I think.

Thanks for this Phil. Didn't really think of looking in the Classifieds!

I thought that there were lots of different versions of the OEM wheels. That makes the choice a lot easier!

Yes, that is what I was thinking too. I had also heard that the smaller the wheel, the easier it will be able to cut through thick-ish snow etc.

thanks

no worries, I think the tyre width is more significant when 'cutting' through snow, the 17's are a little wider.

215/245 front / rear on 17's
vs
205/225 front rear on 16's (I think).

Personally, i think the 04-06 wheels suit the car the best of any of the variants, although I think the 08+ are a little lighter (be suprised if the average driver would notice).

Yes that is kind of what I meant on tyre width really. So I think 16s will be better in deeper snow.

I think I agree although I can't really see the difference really between 04-06 wheels and 06-07 ones.

Thanks for your help

Hi Mark,

yes I did see those. I guess I don't need to be in a huge hurry for these. If I get the new winter tyres for my current wheels then I have at least until the Spring to choose new 17s and get new tyres for them.

I am really only looking to spend around £500 including tyres if possible. With yours I would be looking at £500 just to get them to me and then I still need tyres.

I may get back to you shortly though.

thanks
Mark
