...........no doubt some people will be parking up with the roof down whilst nipping into a shop or something, i am guessing the alarm will go off if its turned on or is the alarm set so that it goes off only when the doors or boot is opened?

Press the arm button again after the indicators have flashed 3 times. Disables the motion sensor.

Depends on what alarm revision is fitted.

Have you looked in your owners manual?

Later UK varients have microwave sensors anyhow so no need to disable anything.
Reaching into the cabin normally triggers it but its not 'that' reliable.
However, they dont false alarm unlike the early types.

It takes a few seconds to close the roof. I always close it, as it's hardly any effort, and there may well be insurance problems if it's left open.

Much more sensible.

Where are these located and do I have them on my 05?

Not sure where it is.
The early or import cars had ultasonic sensors IIRC.
Some imports had aftermarket stuff with US detectors and these are also affected by temperature or air movement.
As there are no ultrasonic sensors on view in my 06 it would suggest the UK facelift models are all MW?

Before you do this check your insurance policy.

If I leave the car in a place where I consider it to be safe enough to leave the roof down then I often don’t lock it.
The immobiliser comes on in a few seconds, the centre console is locked so it’s as secure as ever, just without the alarm.

With the roof down it’s more likely some petty vandal will throw in a half drunk can of coke or a cigarette butt, if I consider my parking location safe enough to not worry about that happening then I’m not going to worry about someone stealing the stereo or the entire car.

If I’m not confident that won’t happen then the roof goes up.

On my 01 car i have always set the alarm and never had a problem, I was of the impression that the motion sensors or what ever they are were disabled with the roof down or so i seem to remember. The alarm certainly goes off if one tries to acces the car without the first diasabling the alarm by say entering the boot with the key.

As far as i am aware the only issue with leaving to roof down is one of bird shit, which i have had twice in 9 years!!!!!! aledgedly good for male pattern baldness for those who maybe suffering.
