Default Where's my car ?

I need some advise. Been waiting for my s2000 for 3 weeks now, apparently DVLC have still not transferred my plate over . The guy before me at the Honda dealer had to wait a month so he just took it and drove around with no tax !!!! I dont know if this is the right thing to do? Can I just put 'tax applied for' on the window ? Also if the plate has not been transferred over is my car not road legal and therefore illegal for me to drive full stop ?

thanks.

Isn't an untaxed car treated as uninsured in the case of a crash or is that total b*ll*cks?

I contacted the DVLA direct. They sorted it out:

Customer Enquiries (Drivers) Unit,
DVLC, Swansea,
SA6 7JL

0870 240 0009

Worth a try.

The car will still be taxed through the DVLA at all time during the transfer. When I transferred my plate off my old car a few years ago, I had to send my tax disc away for changing, I drove around without a tax disc for around 3 weeks.

If the car was previously registered, then there should be no problem.

If I am wrong, somebody will explain.

Lee.

Whilst we`re on this theme, you guys could help me out.

I`m waiting for the dvla/Swansea to send the paperwork back for my new plate. When I finally go to the to the local dvla office with the new paperwork, do you know what I have to do to `keep` my current RF51 XXX plate. So when my new S2 plate goes on, do I pay a retainer to keep the RF51 plate?

As IF I ever sell, I`d like to keep my S2 plate as a momento and use it on any new car I get.

haven't you seen the 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' advert? lol If you drive without tax you are liable to be clamped and a hefty fine.

Personally I have always taken the paperwork to the nearest DVLA office, where they can do transfers and retentions there and then.

I have been in discussion with LB and it seems the DVLA has a 4-6 week backlog on V5's and logbooks. So it seems you guys will have to just keep chasing them.

As for the cheerished plate CC, you should get a retension slip.
When you want to change cars just fill it in with the required amount for a years retention and you will be issused with new plates for the car you are selling and all the necessary docs.
When you have another car ( s2000 i hope) you just fill in the form as normal with the reg fee and put it onto the new car, or something to that effect and it takes time as well.
