Default Whining (pun)

OK - I give up, I'm not mechanically minded and I don't know what it is!
My 03 37k miles, has an annoying whine when throttling back in say 3rd and 4th around 3 to 4000 revs. Amethyst Honda (Gloucester) have so far changed the clutch, flywheel, and GEARBOX! all at no cost (Hondacare) great service, but it's still there!!!! Quite seriously, I know what revs I'm doing in traffic without looking.
What the hell is it???? Is it normal?
Last point at around 50mph, in neutral and coasting, a very similar noise can be heard!?! May not be related.

I don't want to hijack this but was the clutch and gearbox replaced under the used hondacare warranty, or was it replaced under the original 3 year warranty?

Cheers

At cruise if you accelerate slightly does the whine dissappear, and then come back when you take your foot off the throttle? Does the noise come from the back of the car? Is the right oil in your differential (did a dealer change this for you recently at a 36k service)?

Sounds like it could be the diff at a guess....

why is that?

its a torsen diff. nothing wrong with coasting in neutral from a mechanical point of view with that sort of diff.

its been advised on here a few times not to coast in neutral as its not good for the lsd , the same as aa/rac never tow the s always flatbed truck.

but im probably wrong !

I'd have started with the Diff, TBH.

Mind you, since it's all that's left...

Diff, most likely, or if you're lucky the CV joint on the end of the prop.
