I owned my first S2000 for 3yrs and then sold it in 2012, i then bought another one this year in April as i missed it so much. The only car i would replace it with now is a Cayman S or a Boxster S.

That's the plan!

I was inspired a little by MQ's Triumph TR4. Her husband bought it in 1962 (I think) and it's been in the family ever since - there is something rather wonderful about that. In 40 years' time, apparently all cars will be zero emission, so farting about in an S2000 will be splendid, although I very much doubt it'll be me doing that.

When I got the car in July 2010 I honestly thought that it would be mine for about 2 years while I saved up for a newer version or a better car. Still would like a newer version BUT that would have to be in addition to the BEE-EEE-AYE-utiful one I have.

- Cannot get the same colour in a newer version.
- Cannot get the same "ditch finding" handling in the newer versions.

So, yes, my 2002 MCB will be by my side for a long, long time - forever is a promise I would love to keep.

True. You never know what life's going to throw at you, and tastes do change.

For me one of the decisive moments was when I wasn't concentrating properly and I entered a corner about 20mph faster than I could in my old mini cooper s (and it would struggle, waving about), but I decided to stick with it, didn't lift off, and the car did it no problem at all. I was amazed. It's a corner that gets tighter and tighter. There is an escape route though, about half way around, you can decide to go straight on if you want, so I wasn't being too much of a maniac on public roads. Although that is the car I went on to crash after 2 months. Bought last November, cat c write off in January. I couldn't live without one though, which is why I was willing to buy a bit of a dog. Mechanically/structurally it was good though apart from broken gearbox.

On top of the great handling, the engine is epic, being a convertible is awesome (I never knew I'd like a convertible so much), I love the sporty ride, the gearbox once it's warmed up, the feel of all the controls is sporty, and the cabin hugs you and keeps you secure (some would call it cramped). I thought my cooper S was sporty. It was, compared to my mum's focus, but the S2000 is a proper sports car. I sometimes think of it (even though it's Jap) as the ultimate British sports car. Britain kind of invented this genre of car with the Triumph spitfire, Jensen Healey etc., and the Japanese came along and perfected every aspect.

The only drawback for me is the attention it gets sometimes. Especially when people are out in their winter coats and scarves, and I'm there in my car in a T-shirt, roof down, heating blowing lovely warm air at me. I even get people shouting and laughing at me sometimes. I know what they're thinking, but I do it for me, because I love it.

EDIT:
The guy I bought mine from said that he intended it to be his forever car, but with the gearbox being an issue, he couldn't spend more money trying to fix it. He was a Honda fan. He had a tuned up EK9 as well, it had an integra Type r engine in it, and he tuned it up to rev to 11K .
I was fortunate in that I had a gearbox already that I knew was fine.
I think i'm becoming a honda fanboy now. I'd love to get a DC5, maybe even copy him and get an EK9. the EK9s are incredibly fast on hot version international.

I've voted yes on the basis that even though I only bought the car 4 months ago, it was with the intension of keeping it for as long as I can. It will be part of a mini collection, which is only a collection of 2 cars at present, can I call that a collection?

The S2000 is already a modern classic IMHO like the NSX. I agree with Nick's points above; there's not much out there which comes close as a replacement offered by Honda.

I am holding on to at least one of mine for the foreseeable future.

This is my second S, and bought it new in 09 thinking "this will be kept"!! And that is still my plan. Absolutely love it. It never ceases to put a smile on my face and a thrill in my pants.

Ive even looked at importing a low miler from the JDM land. There is no car like it on the market today......but rumours of a successor are afoot. This weeks Autocar gives more than a wink towards Honda's plans for a new version. Even a vague mention of their unofficial attendance at Megameet 11. "Representatives from Honda's advanced engineering department are said to have attended recent S2000 owners club event in the British Isles"......lets hope they listened to us!

Rumours of a successor have been around for a long time, none of which sound less than dubious.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in a K20C1 engine - I prefer crank-driven superchargers and would miss the ridiculous revs of the F20C1.

And I'm still to be convinced by eSH-AWD, even if Monkey seems to like it. Pisgy's yet to try it and Sandy's thinks it's like a fish out of water.
