Default Windscreen surround rust

The upper part of the windscreen surround has started to bubble.

What is the best course of action to take.

I planned on rubbing it down best as I could then using an inhibitor followed with shinetsu to plump the rubber seal up to stop moisture ingress.

Any ideas?

Mike

Can you get a new windscreen on insurance?

Just wondering if they would replace the seals and while they're at it quickly clean out any rusty bits? h

As I see it the only way to sort that properly is with the windscreen removed and a proper body shop doing the work, If that goes to a hole then it could be a nasty problem.

Body shop > cut out > weld in new metal > skim > paint

The problem with removing the windscreen is it always cracks.

Grind it back and then see how deep it goes. I'd also be inclined to have someone carefully weld a piece of metal in there or plate over it and then grind it flat and paint over it as a body shop would.

There is an episode of Wheeler Dealers where they do an MX5 up with rust around the windscreen.

It was a glass out, cut the metal out, weld in new, filler, primer, paint, windscreen back in job.

Thanks for the replies.

This sounds like it is going to be an expensive job.

Going to do what I can first and then if it gets worse (which it will) I will get a body shop to fix it.

Rust is really ruining my S2k vibe right now.

You'd be looking at under 4/500 I'd imagine.

Prepare for a new windscreen - circa 70/100
Rust removal, metal and paint - 2-300

if you can work your way around the insurance company with the fact the screen will need removing rather than it having been subjected to accidental/malicious damage.

Highly doubt it'd do the windscreen in upon removal. They're Triple layered laminate reinforced glass. Providing it's got no major chips, it's not as if they're going to flex the glass.

The wire they use to cut the adhesive is sharper than a stanley knife blade.
