Default Windscreen Washers

Just experiencing my first winter motoring with the S2 and with all the salt and grit on the roads, using the windscreen washers plenty.

Is it me, or are the washers on the MY02 particularly pathetic? Given that the headlamp washers are so annoyingly powerful that they soak cars behind me! (Fortunately, these are still independent from the w/screen washers on this MY .)

Little more than a dribble, barely reaching the windscreen. Plenty of stuff in the bottle, with additive to prevent freezing. Checked the pipework and the nozzles for blockages but still PATHETIC .

Is this a known problem with the S2 and if so are there any mods available to improve it? Your thoughts and ideas appreciated guys and girls.

Plenty on mine too. Check to see if there is a blockage either on the jets or the piping?

The jets get blocked very easily, however on bad days I use the headlight washers to wash the windscreen anyway

Thanks AE

Will give the jets and pipework a severe checking.

Interesting thread as I just noticed the other day that my drivers side washers are crap at the moment and they used to be really powerful. Sounds like I need to check them too

Checked out the nozzles and all the pipework under the bonnet - seems OK. Disconnected the pipe where it turns a corner (just before it dives down under the wing - don't know the techy term for this!) and it's a dribble.

So started investigating deeper - attempted removal of o/s wheel arch liner. Gave up after breaking first plastic retaining clip (but at least have now worked out how they SHOULD be removed ).

Does anyone have any tips or experience of accessing the washer bottle to (hopefully) improve the flow?

Life was so much simpler when you lifted the bonnet of a car and could actually SEE the washer bottle ! But hey it's worth the hassle just for the driving pleasure!

My MY04 is rubbish. Although I ran out of screenwash on the way back from swapping lights with Andy, and had to put water in at the services. Seemed to flow a lot better after that.

Maybe the screenwash i use (Halfrauds Premium stuff) clogs the pipes a bit (i believe you have my old car?!)

You could be right, I put this (Helfrauds premium) in for the first time a month ago. I looked today and couldn't see any obvious problems.

I'll try pouring some hot water on the offending nozzle and see if it clears it out.
