Default Worn Diff Mounts

Has anyone experienced a heavy knocking noise under heavy acceleration, most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd?

You can feel it through the floor of the car and its definately from the back.

The rest of the time it's silent, nothing at all.

I'm guessing diff mounts at the moment but not had chance to check yet.

Thanks
Rick

P.S. I did a search but could only find out about whining or groaning diffs.

Jack it up and have a yank about, you can see them easily enough.
I would be surprised, never heard of the issue before and its well supported.

Hubs / shafts or banging exhaust are a more likely candidiate mate?

The rear ones seem fine, it's the forward ones i'm bothered about, will get it up on the ramp this week sometime.

I thought that but at low speed, turning with a lot of lock on, setting off its perfect?

Definately not the exhaust.

Fair enough, I'll not be alarmist then and offer any more wild guesses

Keep up the thread, always new stuff to learn...

Putting the car up on the ramps tonight to have a nosey.

Priced up new mounts from Honda.

£130 for the rears each.

£61 for the fronts each.

Bargain!

I'm assuming its the fronts (if it is the mounts) as the rears don't appear to be leaking from what I can see sticking my head under the car.

Other possibility could be the chassis brace I fitted the other week transfering more noise into the car that normally you don't feel/hear

Update.

Had the car on the ramps last night.

Chassis brace is clear of everything.

All subframe bolts are tight.

Diff mounts look in good condition and tight.

No excessive play in the diff/prop/driveshafts.

My Megan rear control arms have seen better days so I gave them a quick service, seemed to quiten things down slightly. I think i'll be due for new ones in the next few months though.

Other possibility is if the tyres have gone "off" as they are due for replacement. New ones coming Friday so will see then if it makes much difference.

Will have to see how it goes with the tyres first as that may cure it.

Ahhhhh....

You have Megan Arms.

They stick, under acceleration and lots of squat they make this noise as they move.
Or the spherical balls are shot and corroded.

Are the locknuts hard up against the arm body?

Yeah the locknuts are hard up against the arm body.

The Bearings are getting worn, 3 years and 40k miles old now but they aren't siezed, yet anyway!

I have been out playing in the car tonight and you can feel the noise more than you can hear it, it's like a rotational vibration that only appears under full power, feels sort of like a drum beat to match an un-balanced washing machine if that makes any sense?

I'm conviced it's the tyres at the moment, it feels like they have gone egg shaped?

It's like something is un-balanced when in VTEC?

This post has turned into the ramblings of a mad man!

The tyres would feel 'egg shaped' if the toe is constantly changing
