It's not uncommon if the car is marginal, between saving and scrapping for the unscrupulous owner to add more damage - On a hardtop saloon or coupe, use a plank to put a crease into the roof skin, and make it seem as if the shell has distorted.

Of course I'm too honest for that

Sort of opposite of the "light damage-easy repair" merchants who give a ball of metal a scientific pump so it doesn't look too bad!

All this makes me glad I have Gap insurance which will pay back purchase price, anyhoo, I'd scour main dealer ads for the best(highest) priced on sale and quote these, but bear in mind he has threatened to repair it, it may not be a bluff.

They are trying it on mate.

I would tell them to go an fix it.
Every flaw, it goes back for a rework, be a fussy bastard.

My guess is they won't even attempt a repair, call their bluff.

Fixing it will mean more time waiting and I wouldn't be happy chucking the car around corners once you get it back. If it's just bodywork damage then it wouldn't be a problem but if it's the suspension/chassis that needs repairing it really needs to be fixed by someone who really knows what they are doing. Also, would you really want the car fixed and then have to continually worry about future flaws.

My accident was not a big impact but because of the suspension damage the cost of the repair was

Thats the part that really gets me, he's THREATENED to repair it!! How can they do that!?
I know the stick to your guns angle would be ideal but.....
I think im going to accept the cheque just so i can draw a line under this and get back on the road asap. Im going to lodge a complaint afterwards and see where i get. A few hundred quid isn't worth me waiting another 6 weeks for!

I'll let you know how i get on. I'll post up a picture soon for all the vultures

Don't bet on it - I had GAP insurance (purchased through the dealer when I bought the car) and it caused an unbelieveable amount of stress.

They said the insurers had underestimated the value of the car, so they wouldn't pay the full difference between insurance payout and original purchase price. It took months to sort out, wiht the insurance company threatening to take the hire car off me (not their fault the GAP insurers were ####wits), and the GAP insurers not answering letters/faxes/losing paperwork/telling me they used a different version of Glasses guide to the insurers etc.

Be ready for a battle!

Unlucky with the accident, Borely.

It would seem to me that you will struggle to receive much more than the offer because as you say "They know what i paid for it as thats what i insured it for." So logically
