Default Yes Car Credit and ..

Wake me up somebody.

I am looking at an MOT certificate with an issue date of 5th [January amended to February] 2005. Issued with a used car that was seen for the first time today and taken away today without RFL. Today is 4th Jan, if I am not mistaken.

Certificate serial number: JW0314563 should anybody from Yes Car Credit or the DOT be looking in.

When did that car really go though its last MOT test?

I do realise that Ian. If I had a scanner I would send you a copy.

It is strange how they managed to MOT the car the same day, yet alone the day after.

The garage i take my S to for its MOT and stuff will post date the MOT for you.

If your MOT is within 1 or 2 weeks and you have the last cert, they will post date the new one so you dont loose the weeks off it.

Dont know if its legal but they do it.

You can have the MOT done 1 month before the end of the last MOT but only if you have the current MOT to prove it. Or at least that is what 2 honda dealers have told me

An MOT certificate can last 13 months as long as the previous one over laps, you cannot date an MOT certificate in the future, but the expiry date can be 13 months after the MOT date !!

So an MOT certifaicate dated for tomorrow is fraudulant and invalid, I would have taken it down the police station today and grassed the garage up, if the certificate has been tampered with, ie had January crossed out and February written in, then it is probably invalid also, make sure you don't have an accident, cos your insurance will probably be invalid aswell on that MOT certificate. Take it back and get a proper one, you have been warned.

A dealer does not have to sell a car with tax, if you choose to drive away without tax that is your look out and if you are caught the garage are not liable.

Sort it all before you are caught / involved in an accident with a large claim against YOU !!

Yes, they can post date if you have the current valid cert. Took the bike in approx the 10th Jan for it's MOT, that certificate would have run out about the 25. The new certificate is dated from the 10th jan 05 until the 25 jan 06.

If a car fails its MOT, but there's still a week or two left to run on the certificate from the previous test, it can still be legally driven until the date that cert runs out. (Aircraft are a different matter...)

Errr, I think the police may have a different view on that. It's illegal to drive a car at any time with a defect that would fail an MOT.
