You will be the worse uncle in the world when you buy him a ps3 as opposed to an xbox360

If you can't find what you want s/h or can up your budget, there is a stonking deal on at Amazon for a brand new 250Gb slim model, with HDMI cable, Uncharted 2 and Bioshock 2 for £265.50

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/re...g=hotukdeals-21

That would cost you £319.98 if you walked into Game today, and you are getting arguably the 2 best games for it, and a 12 month warranty.

(personally I've got a 360, but thats another conversation)

Well he specifically wanted the PS3.

I thought it odd too, as I did have the 360 myself a while ago.
Perghaps because Dad has PS2 and a stack of games already.

O/T but how is the Bluray and MP3 handling on either machine?
Was thinking one might do for me, to watch a few BR discs but can it stream MP3 over a lan, and hows the juke box functions?
(either machine)

Cheers all!
Steve

I looked at those deals when getting my new phone. In all cases, I found a tarriff that offered the same/better text/min/data bundle that, over the life of the contract, saved more than the price of the PS3. It's not 'free'.

Stonking Amazon deal, tempted myself.

Just to answer your questions here.

Blu-Ray is excellent on the PS3 although a cheaper standalone player will be just as good if not better (although you can't then get iPlayer and internet upgrades then which are also very good).

MP3s are not that great really. They play well but navigating to them is awkward. Streaming to it from a PC is pretty good and easy to do (and cheap). Personally I think X360 is better for MP3 stuff.

Also, be aware that the any PS3 older than the UK 60gb one will not play old PS2 games. So you need a fairly old one to do this (plus adaptors for controllers etc). I wouldn't even bother trying to be honest.

cheers
M

Mark, that info is great thank you very much!

I'll ask BIL about the backwards compatability thing later.

http://www.cex.co.uk/ - They sell alot of second hand stuff its all tested etc. You can buy or sell online or in store if theres a local one to yo. Consoles and hardware are graded A, B and C in condition. Sometimes a B means its just missing a box or manual.
