caveat: i autocrossed relatively regularly back in 96/97 (ACK! that's about 10 years ago) both in the Detroit, then the SoCal (LA) region. utmost respect for drivers who place at all...

========================

wow. just went thru the 3 websites listed... nothing within 50 miles of me.. (cept Joliet... which is... o.. 45 miles away).

so a typical Autocross Saturday morning REMAINS:
** get up at 6am, gather tools, chairs, food, fluids (for both car and people)
** get on the road by 7am
** tech inspection by 8am, $30 reg fee, course walk
** first car out by 9am
** 4 (5-6 if you're lucky) 1 min runs
** 2+ hours of shaggin' cones
** 4pm rolls around, if you're lucky, you PAY for fun runs...

did i miss anything? someone correct me if i'm portraying this incorrectly (pertaining to this region?). and one wonders why SOLO2 lacks growth

Forgetting anything?

Only that you have 60-second bursts of pure adrenaline!

Chicago Region generally gives 6 runs every time (except during a CenDiv Event... generally 4 then).

Look for the ones that are back-to-back in the same spot, and just get a hotel room. I did that for a few events last year.

dully noted.

now, let's do an economic (for shiz n giggles) or... timed measurement of adrenaline vs. $$$.

typical track day: $150. 20+ laps at ~2.0mi track. (pardon generalizations)
40 miles of adrenaline, unsure of pureness
time spent in adrenaled mode: 40+ min
$ per min of adrenaline: < $4

typical autocross day: $30. avg 5 laps at < 1 mile track.
< 5 miles of adrenaline, "pure".
time spent in adrenaled mode: 5 min
$ per min of adrenaline: $6

the part that BITES the most is the effort:fun ratio.
2 hours of shaggin cones vs. 5 min driving
ZERO cone shaggin / course worke vs. 40+ min of track time

this disparity in the 2 forms of amateur motorsport has been discussed ad nauseam on Grassroots Motorsports, etc. hence NASA was formed, etc. but yah, i'm gonna show up to the Joliet events... just to say i've autoX'd in 3 d'frent divisions

Planet Torque's autocross event list
Windy City Miata Club's event schedule

Tack is 10x more fun than autocross (at least I think so) and is probably the best bang for your buck...but the risk is greater (hunt down posts of my accident last year). And there are the hidden costs - run through tires faster, break pads, extended travel time/costs to Road America, Grattan, Gingerman (all area tracks cept for Autobahn), hotel/camping...but usually I've gotten 4-6 20 min sessions.

chicagovw.org had a sites in schaumburg and maywood last year
windycitymiataclub is good...good people and they usually have 6-8 runs + fun runs at the end.

Personally, my summer will probably be 2 or 3 track days and as many autocrosses as I can get in.

Easy there son.... you may think you're fast but you don't know the folks here on the board yet.

Besides, your driving skills maybe better than mine (& that's a maybe), but your CAD skill still sucks!!
