Default Anyone ever have problems with the convertible top

About 3 months ago I get in my car one morning look over the passenger roll hoop to see light shining in.

Needless to say it didn't make my day.

I'm out of warranty but I don't think an 03 with 40K miles should develop a stress/defect hole.

Ive taken it to my usual dealer and he says they cant make the call and Id have to come in when the district service rep is there.

I dont know if there is any hope for me, any have any experience with this?

This is a known, and sadly, common problem.

Is this covered under the Honda extended warranty?

Some people have had some success with warranty / ext warranty.

So some searches in S2000 talk for "top holes" and see what you can find. I know it has been discussed many times.

Yeah, Ro (S-TO-9K) showed me the patch on his car, and I was wondering if there was anything preventative that I could do to prevent such a tear since my car is relatively new. Anyone tried anything? I thought about sanding down the top mechanism where it rubs against the top so it was more smooth, or affixing some kind of laminate, but I hate to add material as I fear that might cause greater stress in the area.

Sadly it is a common problem. There have been mixed responses from dealers and Honda reps. In my case tears started appearing at 30k/4 yrs.

Dealer in Troy, Mi offered to patch it free of charge after Honda rep. inspected it.
I believe this to be a design issue that causes premature wear and received a subsequent offer of a 50/50 split for a new top and install.

Currently awaiting feed-back from Honda direct.

Definitely recommend preventative actions for those owners that have no excess wear yet. West Marine sells RipAir sail repair tape in many colours and black. I think it works, but it is not ideal.
Save yourself the hassle of dealing with dealer/Honda.

Many people that have tried to get a warranty claim out of this were denied. The explanation was/is that the soft top is a "wear-item".

I say just take the soft top off completely, and get yourself a hardtop. When you want to go top down, the the hardtop off.
