In-car track video
I used my homemade camera mount to take this Putnam Park video from this weekend. Sorry for the huge filesize, I'll change the encoding to make it smaller. I was following the Carrera for 4 or 5 laps before he let me around. He'd get away from me on the straight and I'd catch up in the turns. I need harnesses or the CG-lock! I used an external mic, you can see it in the passenger footwell, but there was a 30mph crosswind that still made a lot of wind noise in the cabin. I've got some other good footage I'll work on getting encoded with smaller filesizes. Any comments or advice on my line are appreciated. As I watch the video, I see a lot of mistakes, mainly going in a little too early.
Nice video
. Keep the size big, everyone's got cable/dsl now anyway, and screw the ones who don't!
Not sure about your hand placement during the corners, though. I was taught to keep my hands at 9:00 and 3:00 the entire time. But I'm no driving instructor, so if it works for you, go for it.

OK, here is another two-lap segment with smaller filesize. Not my best laps, but still interesting. The gray car that passes me is an absolutely brand new, still has dealer plates, 2005 911 GT3. Notice he about loses it right in front of me after the pass, I backed off a bit as I really thought he was going to spin. That thing was crazy fast. I catch the Boxster S and pass him on lap 2. The beeps you hear are the shift alarm, first beep is 8800, second is 8900, third is 9000 - I really like that shift alarm, I rarely look at the gauges at all. I'm on S02 tires, almost worn out. I'm beginning to chunk my left front a bit. My best lap appears to be a 1:31. I know I'm leaving some out there even on street tires, especially in turns 1 and 2, and 9 and 10. Also, last year I hit redline in 4th a couple times at the end of the straight (~121mph?), but this event I couldn't get over 112 or so. Maybe because of the 30mph headwind on the straight or maybe because I'm still rusty and slow out of turn 10. I think a 1:29 or 1:28 is possible on street tires.
To answer the questions, my hand position is not good, but I'm doing that to help hold me in the seat. I really need harnesses or the CG-lock or something.
My helmet is a Bell M2, it works well. I wear sunglasses with it and have no problems. Seems to breath well (I leave the visor up) and is comfortable enough.

But I agree, for what you are doing a harness is invaluable.
