Default Door speakers

At this point I'm really confused with all the options out there . I can't surf though the electronic section without having even more questions. I only have a few basic requirements. Brand is of no concern.....

1. I'm looking for a set of 6" components which do not require "heavy" modification
2. Must have descent tweeters for sure.
3. Decent price $100-$150

The Polk db6's tweeters sound like shiet, amp'ed of course, and as you jack up the volume the high freqs start to saturate.

Thanks for you help fellas....I need to start posting up and hanging out with you guys more...

Alpine Type-X 6.5" seperates SPX-177R. Found mine on eBay shipped for $160 a couple years back, they have been great. I have them amped at 150 watts each.

Does the 03 have tweeter pods? My AP2 was a pretty easy install. If your at any of the WI meets and what to give them a test listen let me know.

PPI 356cs, $140 at sonic electronix:

Here's a thread in the electronics section about them: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=707508

also this long thread over at DIYmobileaudio: http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/hot-de...p-must-buy.html

I have a/d/s components in my car, essentially the predecessor to these. Tweeters are not harsh at all.

Awesome! I think this is the missing info I have been looking for. Did Precision Power buy out a/d/s? All of my audio stuff is a/d/s and I've been looking for some thing equivalent.

I have the 335is (i think 5 1/4") and im wondering if I will get an adequate mid bass response. Otherwise I'm thinking of doind the 6 1/2" setup but wante to stay with a/d/s stuff. Not considering doing a sub right now.

I did hear PTHermes setup with the sub turned off and it sounded great!

Thanks!!! I may just go with the PPI's....from all the positive feedback about the response of the tweets and sound being comparable to focal

Question: As you drive the speaker's harder, the tweeters do not bleed out .....almost as if they are being over -driven that they actually start loosing the the high frequencies and muffle down?

well, some time ago, Directed Electronics bought out a number of "old school" higher end car audio brands, including a/d/s, PPI, Orion and some others.

i think the last "real" a/d/s component set still manufacturered in the US was the XYZis/ix lines. the X indicates the series (2 or 3) and the Z indicating size (your 335is would be 5 1/4). as far as has been reported, both 2 and 3 series use the same tweeter, and it's been constant for some time. the differences are in the mid-woofer material and crossover components.

you can still find some of the left over a/d/s stuff on ebay, let me try and find the store.

sometime after the Directed buyout, they started making a line of a/d/s in China. these are the 345 and 346cs. the PPI 356cs is the next generation of that set, with supposedly a further improved midrange driver, and the same original a/d/s tweeter design. the reviews indicate that these speakers retain much of what made a/d/s great in the first place, and the location of manufacture allows them to be sold much cheaper.
