Yes you're right. indy cars, by design aren't as techno as F1. That's a decision made by the IRL to allow more teams to participate from a financial standpoint.
But, that argument is for another time and another thread.
Less than three weeks to take advantage of the parking and ticket specials for S2000 owners at the USGP!
All orders must be received by the IMS by May 20th!

Since I live in the Indy area, I am not getting a hotel myself, but here is al ink to a website with info on hotels and whether they require 1,2 or 3 nights minimum over the USGP weekend, and prices.

Personally, at this date, you should take whatever you can find that is in your price range, but a little known secret is the Marten House on 86th street, near St. Vincent Hospital (NW side of Indy). It is a hotel facility used primarily for people staying in town for medical seminars and programs or visiting people at the nearby hospital so it is nice and well maintained, but it has a restaurant, a pool, and is very reasonably priced (before I had a house large enough to have guests stay with me, my family found this place and stayed there often when coming to town). I'd trust parking my S2000 in their parking lot/in that area of town.
The best part about the Marten house is that they don't appear to be charging anything over their normal rate and are not requiring a minimum of 3 nights like most places downtown or by the track.
However, its not downtown or particularly close to the track, but personally I would not really want to sleep too close to the track.

FYI - just got an email from the USGP folks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
For the car clubs that are participating in the Car Corral, the IMS is organizing car cruises over the race weekend, and so the S2000 contingent can get in on that too if we want.
Also, like they did last year, if you stay over the next day (Monday after the race) and renew your ticket purchase for next year's race, you can drive your car around the F1 circuit that evening.
And, there is also a breakfast the morning of the race ($10.00 per person) hosted by the Ferrari Club at the American Legion across from Gate 6 of the IMS on Georgetown Road that will be available to the car clubs who are participating in the Car Corral.
All more reasons to take advantage of this great opportunity and drive your S2000 to the US Grand Prix and join the fun.
