Default Fort Wayne / Northeast Indiana residents/owners - seeking opinions

There is a chance I might be getting a new job (fingers crossed) that would require me to relocate to Fort Wayne. If there are any members/readers of the board who are from that area, I'd like to hear your thoughts and comments on living in Fort Wayne. My first impressions of the city were mixed, but I was only there for a day and most of that was spent sleeping and interviewing. How would you rate life in Fort Wayne? If you're a born-and-raised type, this opinion is probably skewed, but I'd still be interested. What do you think of the city itself, the social scene, recreation, general living, etc. If you can give any comparisons to other cities in the midwest that'd help too.

Some quick background on me: I'm 22, single (not ready for settling down/kids so quality schools are of little importance to me), like being outside (not particularly in the winter though), interests include cars and car racing, hockey, rollerblading, boating.

Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to offer. If you don't wish to share thoughts with the world, feel free to PM me or e-mail instead.

I was born there and visit family about 3-4 times a year as I live in Michigan now. It seems to be more of a place to raise a family, live in the suburbs, and go to church. Unless there is a scene I am unaware of, it's a damn vanilla city. I think it has potential however which has not yet been realized.

As far as recreation however there are some great bike/rollerblading trails that run for miles all through the city.. I think it's called "riverwalk" or riverpath or something. One can also find super affordable, well built mid century homes, and possibly some nice lofts downtown if any of the old industrial places have been converted.

I am confused. Are you still looking for information or just making an editorial comment? I would assume that you moved if the original post was from 2001.

I posted this about 3 years ago. I ended up moving here. I ran across the thread when I was searching for something, and figured it needed a few snide comments.

B430 - your assessment is dead on. Not good for a twentysomething single guy.

Not good for a fifty-something single guy either (unless you like heifers).

As for the potential...that was 30 years ago when I was a twentysomething.

OMG I didn't even realize the original posting date. Well.. at least I was accurate with the review of the Fort. Are you planning your escape yet?

Been thinking about it for.... as long as I've been here. Just not sure where I want to go.
