Default Help a friend out...

Hello!

A good friend's S is back in the shop and they have posted the following thread : https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=466692&st=0

Since I've bragged to everyone about how smart the UMW crew is about the mechanics of the S I thought you could help out. Thanks!

Looks like he doesn't need our help. Slow and Billman have him covered.

Not yet. I just decided to store her for the remainder of winter. Now that its warmed up from single digits I'll start the repairs.

The more I've researched and inspected the more I am convinced that the plug did not do as much damage as I first thought.

We'll find out though, soon. Thanks for asking.

With my car- Bad Luck.

Sheila's- I don't know. She is an excellent driver so you can rule out "user error" for certain. And takes excellent care of her car, too.

Which brings me to my next question. Bryan and I were discussing this, and we were wondering if pitted valves is a natural wear and tear with high mileage? One of the items on my repair/maintenance list was to go ahead with a leak down test, and should I have leaky valves is that a sign of wear or something more catastrophic?

Just curious really....

My guess is that in her case the car was running lean for a long time and that is what cause the problems with the valves.

That is my theory, take it for what it's worth (and for what you just paid for it. )

I don't believe the pitting is common on the high mileage cars. A leak-down test IS in your future though, better to be safe than sorry.
