Mid-West Owners Poll
mm, never saw this thread about track days. Putnum Park is a little further for us in Michigan. Why don't we meet in Gingerman?
Gingerman is pretty cheap to rent for a whole day. Even if not full day or weekend, we can still go for an evening open track stuff. One more thing, Gingerman is pretty central to all of us except if you live in Columbus Ohio.
I am going to Putnum in April. BMWCCA membership basically include Roundel Monthly magazine. If you are into social events, there are tons of social events. If you are in Michiana Chapter or Windy City Chapter. You are in luck. They have bunch of auto-x events taken place.
I might be Instructing in Putnum Park in June BMWCCA driving school there, if I am lucky. Let me know what is the arrangement, I am sure one day all of us will meet on track and/or off track.

I would be interested, like Cossa, to get something going in OH, IN, KY area. I organized a small ride, six S2000s, in August 01, and I believe all had a blast.
Cossa, we should get a spring thaw run going to kick off the season.

Well folks, the poll has probably run it's course... it ends this Saturday and I doubt if much will change between now and then. As things stand now we had MI (10), OH (25), IL (22), IN (6), WI (5), MN (3), and ND (1) responding. I'm not aware of any critera to define a local, but I believe I read they were suggesting 8 or more members. The first three states would have met that criteria if there is one. However, based on the responses to date the general sentiment appears to be in favor of retaining the Upper Mid-West group in lieu of a break up. I have driven my S2000 this past summer from mid-MI through WI and MN to St Paul and then on to Mt Roushmore, via ND and SD, so I have first hand knowledge just how far it is. Clearly a large driving area.
For the time being anyway, I would view the total community more as a Internet community which can and hopefully will set up a few meeting and/or driving events that will probably draw folks, generally speaking, from within a 300 mile or less radius based upon where ever sites are selected.
Suggestions so far have centered around setting up a track event (Mid-Ohio, Putman, Gingerman mentioned). Gingerman, due to it's newness, is a good candidate. The neat lakeshore town of South Haven is only a few miles away, so it's a nice scenic vacation area as well. The Mid-Ohio and Mansfield area can be fun too. I'm not familiar with Putman but it looks like an interesting track. I appears Gingerman is probably the easiest to book, easiest and safest for first-timers (very few structures there due to it's newness), etc. The best areas of the Upper Mid-west states for something more along the lines of a tour are all in the outmost edges (southern Ohio, northern UP of MI, hills of MN/WS) where there are lots of twistie roads; but they not very centrally located for the bulk of the owners.
Those are some of my thoughts but I'm sure there are others. Like many of you I have a pretty full plate already with vacations planned, involvement in the MG club, desire to do early open practice dates at Gingerman, etc. but I'd be willing to form and work with a site location committee to see what we can come up with. Anyone who may be interested in helping -- I'd ask that you send be a short PM to say you'll help.
I guess we can go ahead with the logo idea for the Mid-West; Andy has a nice idea. Any others? Suggestions?
I'd encourage the folks in southern OH and norther KY to communicate and see if there's something that can be developed there both locally and for a Mid-West event.
That's all for now... stay tuned.
PS -- man it was nice to drive the S2000 today, this is my kind of winter.

We southern Upper Mid-westerners will definately get something going for the spring, and will be sure to post it here for all to participate.
I like the logo referenced.....
BTW...thought I saw in a previous thread that you S2K was in hibernation for the winter....did you take it for a spin w/o insurance? Days like today are the reason I leave insurance turned on.

I want to call everyone's attention to this post:

It looks the pace at the national level has picked up. The 6-regions have now been defined and the regional director position for our states should hopefully be filled soon. I'm personally am going to pass on submitting my name as I have my hands full with commitments to other organizations but I would encourage anyone interested in being a regional director to submit their name. When you get involved like that you generally get back a lot more than you give and it's a great experience.
I want to publicly thank hecash and boiler for answering my request for assistance in trying to get a spring meeting going. Since the elections have a quick turn around time (Feb 8th I believe I read), I'd recommend we wait and see what the outcome is and involve the new director.

Hey its Keith again.
If we keep it small enough, I will make us cards like I do for the S2kCA membership cards.
So the first idea works best so far. If I find the time I will see if I can get some stickers made as well. That is as long as Linda and I stay together. She works at a label company up here in GB.
Hey dlq04 does Gingermann count for a get together. Or is it to far. But then you must have a trailor.
Seeya all soon.
50 degress today, wow
