Same situation here (30s, married, etc, etc), except we live out in the burbs...many of our neighbors take the train in and (at the extremes) it it about 1.5 hours. Housing can be about 1/2 to 2/3rds the cost of the city out in some decent places (ie. $175-250K+) but you don't have all that downtown action.

Kallan - Can't wait to see you (and HuskerDog!) at some of the summer meets! The chicago gang is a good group. Most of the happenings are out in the 'burbs, but it's only about 45 minutes to an hour from downtown usually. And it's not that far from the Dragon, so I'll still be expecting to see you... and you can join in on the Cincinatti caravan

One thing you may want to keep in mind is parking - I don't know for sure, but I recall some condos only give you one space.

depending on where you are looking, you can usually purchase an extra parking spot. At mine they go for 25k, I bought one.

Hey Westside, nice dog. I love those and was thinking about getting one myself.

Actually, that's Huskergirl/Kallan on the right and Huskerdog in the middle... the dude next to Huskerdog is Meeyatch1 on the board.

$25k for a parking spot might fall into the category of unexpected expenses... which is why I pointed it out

He is going to have the same reaction when I give him the estimated insurance costs today!

Husker-posts in the "Upper Mid-West" club.

What's the world coming to?

I'm gonna tell your Carolina peeps what you said about Charlotte (un)culture.

We hate to see Kallan go. We'll be scheduling a Carolina caravan to Gingerman!

i live in the south side of chicago(midway airport area) and theres plenty of parking available here!!! the cost of living is much more forgiving.. if i want to go downtown, its a 10-15 min. drive.. if i want to go to the s2k meet, its about 35-40 min. drive.. most of the houses around this area goes for 130k-200k and should have three or more bedrooms and a 2 car garage or bigger...just another option that you might want to consider..see you soon!!!
