Escort Solo S2 FTW!!!! Its cordless so you can put virtually anywhere on the windshield, which is good if you are one of those guys that gets irritated with a big ole block sitting in the middle of your windshield.

I have never had an issue with the fuzz after buying this radar when driving. You know, besides my ride height, exhaust noise , and some super sweet tokyo drifting in downtown Milwaukee ..
I am not a fan of the battery operated detectors (like the Solo.) As the battery wears down, I fear the range detection going down too. Hardwiring the detector is pretty easy in an S2000 (and most any other car too.)

^^^^ I've used the Escort Solo and Escort Solo II. Both are more than adequate provided you're using them as an aid, not a replacement for being vigilant It's no Passport 8500/9500 or V1, but it sure is convenient when you have multiple vehicles!

The battery issue is a non-issue as long as you have spares along, and if not you can buy AA batteries in any gas station or drugstore or grocery store.

The Solo and Solo II are both smart enough to shut down when the batteries lack sufficient charge to allow for radar/laser detection.

[QUOTE=Luder94,May 17 2010, 03:50 PM] Chris,

Does it state on your ticket what/how your speed was obtained.

I used an Escort 8500 for a number of years. I don't use it anymore since 1) I drive a lot less now that I live in the city
2) I don't speed that much anymore (on the streets )

When I did use it, I found that it saved me a few times. It also made me feel more willing to speed and used it as a safety net.

Chris - let me know if you want to buy my Escort 8500. There's one on craigslist for $100...so let's say $75? There's also a $80 trade in program for a new unit http://www.escortradar.com/trade-in-program.php
Pat,
I need to read up on the 8500 and about radar detectors in general, but I'll definitely consider it.

One other thing guys, I completely forgot about this until now. The state trooper took my drivers license with him, WTF is up with that? How am I supposed to get a drink without it? Will they give it back?

If you do not have a bond card, they take your license as bond. You will get it back at the court date or in the mail if you choose not to go to court. You'll have to pay for a state ID.

You know what's worse than getting your license taken and not being able to buy a drink? Getting a ticket when your license has already been taken for another ticket.

Isn't it illegal to drive without a liscense with you?? I thought someone in WI got an extra ticket for not being able to present an ID Card when pulled over.

you use your ticket as your license i believe. I had mine taken before and i believe thats what the cop told me.

As far as a detector goes. I use to have one, the 8500 but sold it and now just pay more attention. we all speed at some point during the day. sometime without realizing it. i tend to go with the flow of traffic. I go 70 on 94 every day to school but so is everyone else. As long as u dont go crazy u should be fine. When i do speed ecessivley and i get caught i have no one to blame but myself. I got a ticket in nov for 75 in a 35. i had it comming. it was my first day with the S after being in the shop for 6 months so i got carried away. Just be aware of your surroundings and drive safe

I loved my V-1 when I had it. And I still have my jammer, and it does work, so far.

Here in Wi laser is very common or mostly used. So when you Il people come up beware. And with a radar detector if it tells you, you got tagged with laser it is too late. Also they can just shoot you with radar when they see you and its too late then also. Got a ticket at Dragon this way.

I don't think its a bad investment either detector will work for you. The jammer can be added later if you want, that's what I did.
I did not know it was illegal or not to have a jammer.

And yes you are targeted more now since you have a sports car.

In Illinois:

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), a person may not operate or be in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is equipped with any instrument designed to interfere with microwaves or lasers at frequencies used by police radar for the purpose of monitoring vehicular speed.

(b) A person operating a motor vehicle who possesses within the vehicle a radar or laser jamming device that is contained in a locked opaque box or similar container, or that is not in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and that is not in operation, is not in violation of this Section.
