Why would the spark plugs need to be OEM for Hondacare to cover the claim. Is this required in this type of warranty?
OEM sparkplugs don't need to be changed until 105k according to our owner's manual. There is also no way Honda listed Denso Iridium plugs as an equivalent replacement part.

He installed a part designed for higher performance over the stock platinum plug and it failed on him, not Hondas fault. Now, if those plugs were in the car when he purchased it from a Honda dealership then this is an entirely different matter. I would like to know, who installed the plugs and where was the car purchased?

HondaCare is not a warranty - it is an insurance policy.

As such, they are not covered by the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act - they DO NOT have to prove that any aftermarket parts caused the problem with your engine.

If you read the terms and conditions of your policy, you will see that ANY modification to the car (no matter what it is) will void the HondaCare policy.

They denied you because you modified your S - period.

S2000GT, are you sure you are correct about this?
The contract actually states:

"Vlll. NOTICES
THIS CONTRACT IS NOT MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN INSURANCE"

see: http://www.officialhondacare.com/contract.asp

It further describes itself as a warranty throughout. That being said, I haven't researched the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act to see if that Law is applicable in this context.

(I admit I'm citing to HondaCare's advertising materials, and maybe they are running a bait-and-switch, S2000GT, I'd be interested to know if that were the case -- I don't have HondaCare myself, or at least not yet).

im 100% positive.

The MMWA only applies to manufacturer warranties. It basically states that Honda (or any manufacturer) would have to prove a modification you did, actually caused the problem with your car.

HondaCare is a separate entity and has no relation to American Honda - only that they offer "warranties" for their vehicles.

If you do a search on this site for HondaCare claims you will see that 99% of them will have been denied due to modifications.

I wont name names, but there have been local members too who have been denied as such.....ok, ok, Johnny--2k had his transmission claim denied because he had a CAI (sorry buddy!)

Bottom line, if you want to have any chance of HondaCare paying up, do NOT modify your car.
