got my kumho XS on finally and i am amazed at how much grip these have. they are a significant step up in performance from the RE050APP that i ran prior and are a hundreds less in price. i can not wait till i can take these out on the track

conclusion: I Highly recommend Kumho XS

Tire Rack has their test of Extreme Performance tires up now, comparing the Bridgestone RE-11, Yokohama AD08, Dunlop Z1 Star Spec and Kumho XS:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=118

Overall the dry tests were very close, with differences mostly coming in the subjective areas of feel/confidence, etc. The real outlier from a performance perspective overall was the Kumho in the wet, it was a bit off from the others. There were some differences in road noise and comfort.

But the biggest difference, which wasn't included as part of the test, is in pricing, with two distinct "price brackets". Assuming you run a 225/255 staggered combo, a set of 4 would cost:

$810 RE-11
$796 AD08
$564 Z1
$532 XS

Pat,

Do you still have the CR stock RE-070s? How do you think they compare to the Kumho XS? I got the impression that the RE-07s were supposed to be closer to the RE11 than the RE050s, but could be wrong.

The RE070's were done in...I forget...6k miles? (4 autocrosses, a trip to the dragon, and an EVO School IIRC). Great tires. About as good as my old RE01R's. They just don't last long and are expensive. I like the Kumho's better (regardless of price). The Kumho's have a softer sidewall but never really seem to give up (or maybe that's just my new setup with the FSB). The RE070's...not that they gave up, tons of grip and very predictable...just seems less. But again, slightly different setup.
