Default UMW goes to the shooting range

Hello All,
I have gathered from a previous meet that there are several members that have expressed interest in going to a shooting range. Whether or not you own a firearm this place allows us to rent (with a FOID), bring your rifle or handgun. Please check the link for more info. Also please check and make sure what you bring is “legal” per IL laws. I do not know them; I know the WI laws to get by. However, there are many differences between carry and transport of a firearm. I will leave that up to you, if you are very concerned, I would check this out -> http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/ptfire.pdf

Please keep in mind, I am leaving this up to you, you are responsible for knowing what you can and can’t do/bring/transport. I don’t want to turn this into a debate; also this is not a discussion on owning a firearm and whether that’s a good or bad idea. There are other threads for that. I carry, in my cars, the laws for the state of WI, and now I’m going to carry this document printed for IL. Also, I am not responsible for your actions, you must be an adult to attend, any violation or illegal activity, and I will NOT help you out. If you don’t have FOID, and are caught transporting, I will look the other way if law enforcement gets involved. Please use YOUR best judgment, follow the law/rules as you were going on your own.

You must be 21 years old and have a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card to use the range, rent guns or purchase ammunition.
With all of that said if you have any questions please call
On Target (proposed range)
560 Beechcraft Lane Crystal Lake, IL 60012 | (815) 477-2020
http://www.ontargetsite.com/range.php

They can answer any questions you may have. If you don’t have a FOID card, I will NOT let you use my firearm, if someone else does, that is on you, you’re breaking the law and I will not be held responsible. As stated above make sure you know the laws before attending this event, do not ask me what they are, as I will probably NOT know. My only responsibility is setting up this as place that we can all go to and share another hobby 

With all of the legalities of the way, I am proposing to go to On Target in Crystal Lake. This is a place a few people suggested. We must have a count of people coming to set up a time. I told them 10 people, on a Saturday. The suggested time was 10 am if we don’t want to wait forever. If the meet is bigger, then we may be able to setup something via a reservation. I do not know what that limit is.
We can discuss plans after if people want to setup a food meet. Keep in mind this may be tough since most of us will be transporting a firearm. We can discuss the meet, time, and plans before, during, afterwards.

Please don’t turn this into a debate, we are not selling/trading NOR showing off what you are bringing. Just bring it, we will see it or rent it, OR pretend you don’t have anything and are pretending to rent it. If you feel that you would not like the internet to know you have a firearm or FOID, you can pm me and I’ll keep you as an anonymous attendee. If you feel the need to show off your firearm and maybe want us to see your collection, please start your own thread in the Windy City. Some people just feel that this is personal and would not like this available online, and I respect that decision. Some may feel that because someone owns a firearm, that they will act different towards them, I have had this happen. I assure you, I will not judge you NOR will comments in that nature, be allowed in this thread.
Any questions PM me and I can send you my number and we can discuss those concerns.

I have said a lot, I am probably missing a lot. I just want everyone to know that I feel the UMW is responsible enough to participate in this type of event. I would encourage you to NOT prove me wrong. That’s not a threat. It’s a warning.

It may be possible that you can be accompanied by someone 21. If you want an immediate answer you can call. Otherwise for these types of questions , I will call as they pile up.

This is per the website:
Shooters under 21 years of age must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian.

In.

Thanks Andy for the nice post. Although this is a car forum, I feel the car is just a simple medium that is bringing together some great people. I am happy we are getting into new territory (also want to do paintball this year )

I would like to note that I have not recently been able to obtain enough ammo to provide me a trips worth of shooting, so I would ask that this be pushed out a bit to allow myself and others (as needed) to obtain proper amount of ammo.

I agree that everyone has to provide for their own firearm and ammo, and meet all legal requirements for this event. Selfishly, I would also like anyone who joins and intends to shoot to have 1. proper firearm safety protocol down, and 2. this not be their first time shooting. I also would like to concur that no one will drive my car, shoot my firearm, or kiss my girlfriend

I look forward to an awesome meet! On Target is a nice facility!!
