upgraded audio
Figure many of you have had your S for a while. Looking for some feedback on speakers and what others have found to work good. Not looking to be heard blocks away, just something clean and that I can hear with the top up or down. If you have pics of what you did please post them
Already picked up a head unit just need an amp or amps and some speakers.
Thanks,
Mike

sam_spider (a local member from Michigan) would be a good reference for this. He has completely re-done his audio system and it sounds fantastic.
I plan on re-doing mine sometime next summer, and I intend to use him as a resource then.

Mike,
In my car I have Alpine type R components, Alpine type R 10" sub, all driven by Alpine amp and headunit.
In Ronica's car, I have Polk Audio components, Alpine amp, 10" deckmounted, free air, thin MTX sub (have to check brand again). The Polk audios needed a little tuning from the amps to filter out some of the really high freqs, but once done, I think they sound much better in Ronica's car than my setup does in my car (that may also have to do with how much interior (insulation) her car has vs. my car...my car is gutted of its softtop, leather seats, and all the extra plastic from behind the seats and replaced with metal and fiberglass.
Both cars only have the two door speakers and tweeters, and one sub each. I've got what I want out of the setups...clear sound, good thump, and driven just right (not overpowered and not underpowerd). You're free to come by and listen to both setups (or listen to the setup in the Accord wagon).
BTW, if you're in the market for a headunit, let me know. I have a bunch of high-end Alpines sitting collecting dust; ready and wired to plug and play into an S2000 (yes, with harnesses).

If you choose to keep the stock setup up and listen to the exhaust note of your car, you'll want an aftermarket exhaust. I'll advise you to stay away from a lot of the ones out there on the market that'll make your ears bleed and make your speaker, amp, and headunit upgrades worthless. Stay with the clean sounding HKS dual or Mugen exhaust (of course I have both. Both cars are setup wtih Mugen exhaust, but I do have an HKS that's sitting in my garage that we can mount up to yours to see if you like it...HOWEVER, it's NOT for sale. I plan to use it in the near future).
We can mount it up let you play with it for a weekend or two.

Hey Mike,
If you really want the best sound with the top down then get headrest speakers. I custom fabbed myself a headrest setup that looks pretty clean and sounds utterly fantastic. Rockford Fosgate speakers in the headrest and in the doors
Good Luck!!

Hey passnu, if I were you, try going to Bestbuy or any car audio store and listen to each speakers. After all, we all have different hearing preferences. What sounds good to some might not be to your liking.
I use to run Alpine type r components and type r sub, but had a changed my set-up to Rockford fosgate and now I'm currently running Polk audio w/ alpine type r sub.

I forgot what set up I have lol, but I can check when I get home. I love blasting music while just cruising. The stock speakers weren't doing it for me. I know I put component speakers in my doors with tweeters cut into my door panels. I also have a 12" sub cuz I love my bass lol. A great thing to do is sit in a few cars that have had things done and see what you think. it always sounds different than listening to it in a store. Anytime you want to check mine out let me know. I'm usually around the north suburbs.
Thanks guys,
I already have exhaust, headers, ect just waiting to install them. I went the direction I did from using CT when I had an NSX and liked everything about it. I rolled the dice to see if this holds true with the S or not.
As for the stereo yes I want to do this. I'm considering taking the soft top off the car but not 100% sure on this just yet. I picked up the new Pioneer Stage 4 head unit so all I need is a set of separates, sub, and an amp. This is the area I need some ideas with since this is my first true convertible. The NSX turned out great but my guy that used to work at tweeter and I lost contact with him when they shut down. I thought I had went with Polk but its been a while now. I had a Targa NSX and the sound was perfect with the top on or off and I am "hoping" to accomplish this with the S if that's is possible.
Some of my ideas:
run 2 sets of 2 way separates and 1 10" sub
run a 3 way component set and 2 8" subs
Has anyone installed subs behind the seats "or" were the plastic tray is for the hard top to rest on when its fully opened? Having my car in pieces that gave me the idea of taking the soft top out of the car and using this area for 2 small subs 8" or 10" for a clean tight bass. Looks to be plenty of room for a small free air sub just want to make sure that it can hold the weight of the sub or subs.
I considered getting the stage 4 separates and their amp and finding a sub or maybe just get the pioneer thin sub that they have. I liked what I read about this new line and its something new and different to try out. Also been a while since I had an aftermarket setup in my car.
Urmil I need to come hit this treasure of yours that Matt keeps telling me about
Its going to be a while before I can make it up your way with the baby in the icu and other things. But this would be great to hear what your set up sounds like. It sounds exactly what I am looking for.
