Can't wait to go out there! Should be a lot of fun. Probably won't drive TOO much since we've got the time attack event in Nashville the next weekend.

Now that I've said that, someone's prolly gonna have to pull me out of some sort of mess before the weekend's over.

Way to jinx myself.

How do you figure out which class you're in? I've done Gingerman once and Autobahn once, but both 3 years ago and haven't done anything since except autox.

It's really up to you - which can be really difficult. After 2 events, I would still put myself in beginner - but I'm a really slow learner and sucked hard when I first started.

Here's my guess to a general rule of thumb -

Beginner group - most likely a mix of complete newbs (no track time, no autocross) and those that have a little experience but are still finding their groove.

Intermediate I - probably those that know they're faster than the complete newbs and will be all day.

Intermediate II - probably those who could be in advanced but either have a slow car, or get intimidated by slowing someone down.

Advanced I - probably those that know Gingerman well and have done this enough times to really know and push themselves.

Advanced II - probably people who could instruct, but would rather just enjoy the day driving.

In general, you'll want to put yourself where you're going to go fast enough to have fun, but not slow enough to really slow others down. You can always move up or down a class if there's room and you think you need to. However, with as full as this event is getting, I don't know how well moving up/down will be.

estuki - glad you'll be making it.

Everyone who's going - I'll probably be heading out from Chicago mid-day Friday with a couple of friends if you want to join our caravan.

Yup. Pretty sure I'll be camping both nights.

They didn't allow it for a NASA event? that's odd. Gingerman has camping info on their web site. From other people I've talked to who are going, they plan on camping as well. The buzz is camping is where the party is.
