What to watch out for?
Might be buying a new car tomorrow - want to make sure dealer doesn't rip me off with stuff that may be related to the state's DMV charges (like sales tax, registration, doc fees, etc.)
any suggestions as to what to watch out for?
any suggestions as to what to watch out for?
I go in with a written offer, that says the price is $X, has a blank for me to fill in the VIN of the exact vehicle I want, and I state in the offer that the price is $x and that includes everything, with the exception of Indiana sales tax and temporary license fee, and that all other charges, including document fees, handling fees, processing fees, etc. of any kind whatsoever, are included in $X,
there is a signature line for the dealership to "accept" my offer.
It is amazing how many sales people and sales managers do not read this thing before we reach a deal, and then the first time I see a $20 document processing fee, or something, being snuck in I point it out to them and they get flustered. They might say something like "I have to charge you this fee" and then you say "I understand, that's why it is included in the $X, I have already paid it."
Maybe someone has a better approach, but to the extent I have ever had to deal with the chislers and the document/processing fee BS, this has worked.
I also think the quality of the dealership and sales person make a big difference on how things go.
What are you thinking of buying?
