Can dealership ask for payment after paid in full?
I purchased a car from a local dealership around a month ago, paid in full, with papers to prove it. Today I got a call from the Sales Manager asking for proof of purchase, because I guess they lost the paperwork regarding my purchase of the car. I told them I might not be able to provide the receipt, however I do have the "paid in full" paper, purchase price, etc. They got pushy with me saying if I don't provide receipt or a copy of my bank account transaction record proving the payment, then I'll owe them money.
This sounds like a lot of BS to me, and seems very wrong. It seems like they're in a panic because they can't find my paperwork, and now want me to provide it. Is this something to be concerned about? Anyone else have a similar experience?

Dealers have been known to pull scams involving trying to get you to pay more than the original price.
If you really did pay, then you don't have anything to worry about, since one way or another the money can be tracked down.
But really, you don't keep stuff like that? You should. By "paid in full paper" what do you mean? If you have the state-issued title, you can tell them it's their problem to deal with. They wouldn't have signed it over without payment.

Thanks for the response. I have all the paperwork I signed at the dealership. By "paid in full", I mean the Vehicle Buyers Order for the car, which shows the amounts paid (the total price) and unpaid ($0). Sorry if that was confusing... I was looking at WA state legal stuff and for some reason "paid in full" stuck in my head.
I don't have the actual title yet, the dealership told me it takes 8+ weeks in WA. Is that a lie? I do however have a copy of the signed (by me as the buyer and the the dealership as the seller) Odometer Disclosure / Title Extension Statement, with the correct VIN and other information about the car.
I'm kind of surprised they would harass me about this. If anything they should be looking through their paperwork. I offered to help, but when they threatened me about paying, it just didn't feel right.

Odd. Sounds like they are trying to change the agreement or something.

You sound like you have what you need. Next time they call to harrass you ask to speak w/ the GM. Tell him/her that when Honda calls you'll be giving them 1's instead of 5's and that your next phone call is going to be to the Better Business Bureau.
