New Law!!!
I was talking to my friend today, who works for an Emissions/Inspection place downtown. Yesterday he had to go to a UDOT orientation where they announced a law that concerns tint and wheel sizes. The law says that you can have your back windows as dark as you please, while the front can be tinted to 40% light emittance. A bar across your front windshield can now be tinted to 40% up to 6 inches down your windshield instead of 4 inches. Here's the real whammy. Wheel diameter cannot exceed OEM standards!!! They can be as wide as you want, but you cannot go up in sizes or else your car will not pass emissions!!! The exception to this is if you buy factory direct wheels from the dealership. This means no 17's for my S this summer, and many of my neighbors, one of which has 20" wheels on a 2002 BMW 745i will have to stay at factory size. They UHP says that this law must be passed because they believe that bigger wheels equals low-profile tires, and you could damage your wheels on the highway, causing a hazard on the freeway. I feel that this law is stupid. I like the tint law, but the part about the wheels has to go. What do you think?
They are trying to keep you from getting lower profile tires! So, it is total diameter of the rim they are enforcing! S2000 comes from the factory with 16's, you have to stay at 16's! What I'm told is that they are going to discriminate against younger drivers in sport compact cars, it is also another reason to pull people over at the weekend street races. I hear that this law comes into affect in July. I'll keep you posted.
It sounds interesting but I think it will be hard for them to pass this law as wheel and tire manufacturers will have something to say. since I would think they rely heavily on aftermarket sales.
The two laws don't make sense. Tint your rear window as dark as you want so that when you get pulled over for having non factory size rims and tires you can shoot the cop who pulled you over and he will never see you.......I would think they will compromise on the wheel law and maybe set some limits like one to two sizes up from factory.
I'm sure other states will fight hard for it if something like this gets proposed.

What about the people that already have larger rims? I think the tint law is stupid, they have it here in NY and is just another excuse to be stopped....they stop cars around here with windows down and make them put them up to be metered for tint! Then usually a warning/ticket...just another excuse to stop you.
