Silver State Classic
Bob(Utah S2K) & myself went down Ely, NV this pass weekend & meet a fellow S2K owner from Provo, UT his name is Russ & he was entered into the 105 mph class with his Yellow S2K.. I e-mail Russ today to see how he & his son did & this is what he had to say..
Marc,
Thanks for the message. It was a blast. We enjoyed it very much.
You'll have to try it in the fall. The car was very stable. We
launched a little slow and then ran it up to 124 for a couple of miles.
Then backed off to about 105. That's about what it should of been when
we passed you. We went back up to 124 for the speed trap and back down
to about 95 for a ways. We were slow comming out of the narrows and
missed the last checkpoint (8). Found out we were slow when we started
compairing time at mile marker 11, about 7 miles out. Went back up to
124 to the finish. We think we crossed the finish in the second that we
were supposed to, but we'll have to wait for the final results to know
exactly.
A couple of things on the S2000. There is a smell I can't identify when
over about 115 mph. Something gets hot. Second, the speedometer is
about 5 mph fast over 100. Most likely some error below that but I
haven't checked it. That was against my GPS which I believe to be
fairly accurate. Hope to see you on the 10th. I'll try to make it.

In regards to your smell you enjoy over the 115 mark, is something I think we all experience. If not clutch it may also occur depending on mileage. I have found that it has always been clutch heat and abuse. The clutch we have stock puts our S2K to shame. It has to be a major downside that this car has. With an ACT stage three clutch that can be fixed.
Working with GPS is a very complex thing to do. If you had only a handheld then chances are you will be off. Even the $200,000 unti I was working with could not pin an accurate reading at that speed. That is why it misread.
Don't worry about the smell, it sucks but doesn't kill the important thing, The car...J/K of course its you.

I didn't want russ to think I was doggn' his GPS. So, sorry Russ if you thought that. You must have a damn good handheld to be throwing measurements of that accuracy. Let me know wich brand and model......
Silver State Road Race results:
We came in 4th in the 105 mph class, at an average speed of 104.9453 mph. Winning average 104.9806 mph. Had we relied on Honda's "quality" speedometer, we would have averaged about 100 mph with the odmeter reading 94.5 miles at the finish, instead of exactly 90 as the GPS indicated.
Which BTW cheats me out of about 1800 miles of warrenty by my calculation.

Thats an S2K for ya, I got a monday car everything falls apart. I have been clocked and it read fairly close. That does prove that with a hang over you can do one thing right.
You failed to mention what GPS. I need a right on the balls reader like that one.
