Is there a way to track the progress of my car??
Do you guys know of a way that I can track the progress of my car. I spoke the my salesman at the dealership the other day, and asked him about my car, and he gave the same response he did a month ago. I'm just curious if the car has been built yet, or what day it is going to be started.
Once you get your Vin number you should be able to track it. When you get that I don't know as I bought off the showroom. I think Bob could help you with the tracking once you get it as I vaguely remember something about him helping track the cars.
What response did he give you? Where does he say the car is coming from? The factory or a dealer trade? Are other customers of this dealership also waiting for S2000s? Where in the waiting list are you in relationship to them? Does he believe that you're a serious prospect? For example, have you left a deposit or at least offered to leave one?
If your car is an upcoming allocation from the factory, then the salesman should be able to tell you the scheduled build date. As an example, I was told several weeks ago that my car would be built on April 24. I was also told that the factory is usually very accurate about these dates. I'll find out soon enough how true that is but I'm hoping for the best.
Your salesman's vagueness could mean many things. Maybe he just doesn't know the ropes. Maybe also other people are ahead of you in line. If yours is to be a dealer trade, maybe that's something he's working on. The S2000 sells itself; the salesman still has plenty of work to do but it's a slam dunk compared to other models. That could be another source of the communication gap.
Whatever the cause, there's no harm in insisting on better answers. Ask him to describe in detail how the allocation/trade process will work in your specific case. Don't give up until you are satisfied with the answers.
Good luck!

I'm sorry I misunderstood your post. It sounds like you are actually very close. My salesman was able to give me a scheduled build date from some kind of a report the dealership receives. Since we're in about the same time frame, I'd expect your guy to be able to provide similar information.
Once built, the car is put on a ship, which is supposed to take about a week to fill. In other words, the car ships at the latest approximately one week after it is built. When it does ship, the dealership is notified of that as well. I've asked my salesman to let me know the ship date when he learns it. Thta would be reasonable to ask of your salesman.
Transit time is another question you could ask. I've heard two weeks on the water and another week or so over land once it arrives in port, depending on where you are located.
Sorry again for the misunderstanding.
