Default Winterizing and Storage

Next month I'm going to look at storing my S2K for the winter ... probably find a storage unit down in Salt Lake (maybe it will be nice enough to drive it occasionally in the lower altitudes which ain't going to happen in Park City 8^). But, I've never stored a car for an extended period of time (say Nov thru Apr) ... so, looking for advice on what I need to think about.

I know there are several lists on the forum, here is what I do.

I change my oil once a year, usually in spring. I do not put the mileage on to really warrant more. When will you change next?

I completely detail, wax, the whole works on the car, spending a little more time than usual. I fill the tank as full as possible with fuel, but have never used a fuel stabilizer. I air the tires to near max, or about 55psi. I have square carpet pads I park on, word is this helps prevent flat spots. I disconnect my battery as to not come back to a low battery in spring. Next I put on the car cover, which usually comes off once or twice through the winter. That is only for the fact I need to sit and stare at the car. I crack the windows, and unlatch the top. I also place some rags under the wipers to prevent them from becoming flat, or at least that's the idea.

If rodents might be a issue, stuff rags in the tail pipe and intake openings. Can't hurt right?

Pretty much everything I have read up on the storage idea, says to not worry about periodic starts through the winter. Just undo everything and fire up in the spring.

Thanks for the advice.

I've got about 4K on this oil change ... so, might change that just to be safe.

Forgot about rodents ... think you're right about stuffing the rags ... might also put a couple of rodent traps around it.

I actually read that steal wool will work better than say cotton. Apparently mice detest steel wool, or maybe its the fact they cannot chew it.

I'm going to completely disassemble then reassemble my car inside my front room.
