Default Fuel economy

Prior to my last oil change, I was consistenly getting 380 km's out of a tank of gas and would require 43-45 L of gas to fill the tank. This was with mixed city/highway driving. Of course the mileage would be worse, lie 350ish when I autoX'd.
Most of the time I was using conventional oil and getting an oil change done every 5000 km's which in my case is just under every 3 months.
Last month, in preperation for a track day, I did the oil change and used some Motul 300V fully synthetic motor oil.
My first full tank after the track day got me 430 km's and used 45 L to fill up.
Last night's fill up was 43.6 L on 450 km's.
I have gone from 11 L per 100 km's to under 10 L per 100 km's. Nothing else has changed other than the oil.
I will watch the next few weeks and report back to see if the better fuel economy stays.
I will also run the numbers to see if using the more expensive oil will actually save me $$$ in gas for the entire 5000 km's.

Hmm...Interesting.

For some comparison, in my AP2 I usually fill with 40L and get between 360 and 400 kms to a tank, depending on driving conditions (city, highway, autox). For straight highway I'll usually get 450+ kms out of a tank. FWIW oil is Mobil 1 10W30.

Just remember, Mobil 1 changed the formula for their oil a few years back and is no longer a true fully synthetic blend.
Expect to pay $16 a littre for a true high quality fully synthetic motor oil. And the good stuff comes from Europe.

I think Motul is going to do another tech session at the July 8 club meeting so you might want to attend this if you can.

Hmmmm, interesting! I have been using regular dyno oil in my car so far. I plan to convert to Mobil 1 in a couple of months time too. I use M1 b/c it has served me well, yes even the latest blend.

Do you always fill up using the same brand of gas Edwen?

I had heard this also. It seems to work though, so for now I'm going to stick with it. At my next change I'll probably do an oil analysis of the engine, tranny and diff oil then make some decisions based on what I find there.

I wish I could make the meeting, but it's hard to nip over to Vancouver for a Tuesday evening meeting I'd also really like to be there for the tech session on data logging.

I only use Cheveron 92.

I'll try to tape the tech session on oil and data logging for you buddy. = )

Just FYI, I have 1 year old new formula Honda tranny fluid and 2 year old Red line 75-90 fluid in the diff. Both now have 2 track days under their belts. Also, I have 2 year old Champion plugs. I'll need to change spark plugs soon.

That's a surprising increase in fuel economy from just the oil. If your results stay consistent, I'll be switching to Motul Synthetic on my next oil change.

As an aside, I've also noticed a slight improvement in economy from switching to 94 octane. On 92 octane I would get around 370 km/tank, with fill-ups around 42L. On 94, I'm getting 380/tank and usually put in 40L or so. But that's nowhere nearly as surprising as the gain from Motul Synthetic you seem to be getting.

Edwen, if you could make those sessions available I'd love to watch them too, my boss and I are both autocrossers, and we've been talking about getting a data logger. I'd be interested to see what the pro's at the tech session have to say about them.

I also just recently switched from Royal Purple to Motul and I am getting about 10L per 100km of mixed hwy/city.
