How did you guys save up money to mod?
its an odd question but yea...
anyways, im assuming everybody has a decent salary here~
myself, being an engineer trainee, i only earn about 3k a month, and thats before tax...with tax taken off, i get only about 2.5 or so..
paying for the car (i lease the thing) about 600 or so
insuring it about 300 or so a month
and gas takes 100-200 depending on price..
so thats about 1 grand off my salary right there...
to live with food + rent + play with gf and stuff takes 1.5 grand...
so....that yields 500 bucks extra per month...
how do you guys spare like thousands and thousands of dollars on the engine, suspenion, etc...
i mean, i can easily buy a buy a car thats worth 80,000
but it seems so much harder to buy a 50,000 car and dump 20,000 on it...
anybody mind sharing their financing situation and modding experiences?

With the $80k car you can do monthly payments and have it regulated.
To drop made Gs into the S, you have to pay up front with savings. And have it written off as lost, because it's a poor investment. Mods depreciate much quicker than the car itself.
I save what I can, invest, and spend frugally. I dont pay for rent/food though. Just gas, insurance, mods, etc. And my car is paid for, which helps.
Just save that $500/month and invest it into an appreciating asset. Then you'll make more and you can either upgrade later, or mod!

I just can't justify the money on mods. Quite frankly, the car is more car than I can use on the streets and I think it looks great stock, so I figure why spend all the money on the mods. Maybe I am just cheap???

a lot of people are still mama/papa powered in vancouver.
That certainly helps when you don't have to pay for your own living expenses
out of vancouver, you see a lot less people at a young age having the ability to mod the car, if even affording the car in the first place.
Kudos for you for paying for the s2k while being an engineering trainee

Im trying to figure out my mod money as well right now. I got my s2k in december and am paying 880 a month for it, as well as 270 insurance. I am an apprentice metal worker but dont pay rent. If I did there would be no s2k. I have a hard time saving money from month to month, but I really want to get gears for it. I suggest maybe putting whatever you can aside, maybe in a different account, or invest it. Eventually you will find a couple thousand in there and you can buy some stuff.

Guys, it's easier than you think. Just get married, get your wife to work
But then again the rings are enough to buy you a life time worth of mods

Haha not at this age!
Anyways, I mod veerrryyyyy slowwwllyyy. It's hard enough making payments as is... nevermind the fact that the last 2 months have been a nightmare in terms of tickets.. argh never had a problem before this. My last major mod was my T1R exhaust last summer, my next major mod will be coilovers this summer... that's about the speed of my modding.

my philosophy-
buy what you need .. no fancy clothing / food. Wake up later in the afternoon so you'll save breakfast money ...then finish the day with 2 McDs meals. You'll be surprised at how much you will save.
but seriously...don't put too much money on mods..u worked hard for the $$ ..save it up and spend it on some more useful/meaningful things.
g'luck ..work hard
