Importing car Problem
- 2 weeks ago i purchased a 01 red honda s2000 from Seattle WA
- read all the guides on importing, did my best to follow step by step how to import a car from the united states
- got it through boarder, paid for interm insurance, paid for riv
- went to cdn tire to have the vehicle passed inspection
i have all the paperwork done correctly however there is a sticker on my driver side panel missing
its the sticker that states the vehicle passes all safety in the us motor vehicle regulations
what happen was i think the owner, or the owner before him removed the sticker when he had the door jam repainted
i've made two trips to Honda in the USA with no help
i'm not sure where to go from here
i'm looking for some help or a second opinion as to what i could do?
i have phoned riv, without that sticker they won't help me

yes it has the vin number
its on the driver side door jam
i went to SW Honda in Bellingham (closest dealership to me) and they said they can't print a label off for me or give me a letter stating that my car meets all motor vehicle regulations in the USA
so i'm stuck in a jam, i have potentially purchased a vehicle which i cannot drive

Um, you didn't get the recall clearance letter?

This is the sticker that certifies that the vehicle meets all the US regulations. When you import a car to Canada, the RIV issues a decal that says that it meets all Canadian regulations, which you then are supposed to stick on the doorjam. Without the above decal, the RIV people cannot confirm that it is in fact a US vehicle, conforming to US standards.
thats mavm86... thats the sticker
from what it looks like it was removed when the door jam was painted but they never put it back on there
if i had known about this problem i never would have purchased the car
now that i have, i'm stuck

What was the reason that SW Honda gave for not getting a sticker for you?
You could always go back to the previous owner and ask him to get the bodyshop that worked on the car to get it for you. Maybe ask a local bodyshop what they would do to get one to stick in a car that has been in an accident?

SW Honda says they don't issue that sticker, and they refuse to help me in anyway beyond that
I'm not sure about RIV sending that sticker out but i don't think they will if i don't have the USA one
