Thumbs down Time to slow down!

I am sure you have all heard about the new fine structure that is being implemented by ICBC. If you get ticketed for excessive speeding, you will have to pay the regular ticket for excessive speeding PLUS a $320 fee attached to your driver's license for three years. This mean 40km over the speed limit will cost over $1000!!!!!

3 regular speeding tickets (or other moving violations) within a three year period will also trigger the heavy fines! ICBC claims they will use the new revenues to lower the costs of insurance to safe drivers... I'll believe it when I see it.

My thoughts exactly.

And I might as well vent on ICBC while we're on the topic. I hate this +5% bs for each year without an accident. 5%? c'mon. I've only been in one accident since i started driving 5 years ago, and that was when I was rear-ended. Under the old rules I would already have full discount, but now I have to drive 10 years without an accident before i even get a chance at saving that kinda money. Everybody makes a stupid decision or what-not in 10 years of driving, whether or not it causes an accident is a different story. But I think it's ridiculous that that's how long you have to drive without an accident before you can start saving good coin on your insurance rates.

Are you serious? Governmentized insurance is the worst! I'm originally from Calgary and the insurance industry is privatized so there's a ton of insurance companies competing for your business. Unlike BC where insurance is monopolized and they can do whatever and charge whatever they want, we're in a loose loose situation. Getting into an accident here is another interesting topic. Everyone has at least basic insurance coverage from ICBC and when you think of it, who is ICBC really looking out for? THEMSELVES. Here's a scenario, you have two parties both covered by ICBC and they get into an accident, ICBC is going whatever they can to get out of it oppose to two non related insurance companies trying to prove each other wrong.

I have roadstar and a 10 year discount and my insurance is still more than what i was paying in Alberta

I say thumbs down to ICBC

What bugs me is that I have never had an "at fault" accident in 25 years of driving, yet if I get caught for going 40km over the speed limit I am now considered to be a high risk driver.

I don't normally drive fast, but I know there are some areas around town that I find the speed limits low for the road design. Up near my house, there is a beautiful 2 lane, divided stretch of road. In five years, I have never seen an accident in the area. The speed limit is 50km but easily could be 60 to 70. Many people do a 100km along this stretch. IMO that is too fast, but not so fast that it warrants a $1000 fine.

I bet you you can guess where the local police set up their speed traps...

In Ontario, insurance rates are about 3 times higher than vancouver ICBC. Under privatized insurance companies, no matter who is at fault your insurance premium will go up.

Vandelized? rates goes up!

Hit and run? rates goes up!

T-boned by drunk driver? rates go up!

u get the idea.

ICBC is still the cheapest and most fair i have seen.

Also with regard to modificatoin parts, ICBC covers up to $5g i believe. In ontario no insurance companies will insure a car with modificaations. People do it anyways, but I have heard of someone who got his insurance void after a major accident, because he has an aftermarket exhaust.
