What car should my dad buy...
I haven't bought a new car in a few years, so I am a little out of touch with the market. My dad totalled his car the other day and he needs to buy a new, cheap car to putter around in. He is looking at a new base model Civic and and new base model Jetta. Any advice on which is better AND should he be looking at anything else in that category?
I am a little biased,as I have the S2000, a FIT and CRV. Any advice is welcome...
Thanks

They're both very good in terms of daily driving, but I'd prefer the Civic over a Volkswagen. Civic's lease terms I'm sure are much cheaper too.
Civic: Easy to drive, cheap on gas, reliable, easy to fix.. what more could you ask for?
Volkswagen: Difficult to fix, more money, more problems.

I've never bought anything else either than Acura/Honda, and both have been good to me. Don't think that will ever change. I think your dad should go with the civic, i like the dash on the new civics

I would go for the civic, the newer ones are low maintenance and no issues thus far (I have an 07 with 80xxxkm +). I think Toyota should have some models in that price range as well (corolla? yaris?)

Honda currently has .9% finance on a lease plus if you already have a Honda lease they drop it down to .01% finance on a lease.(loyalty rate) DOn't know what VW is offering but it would be hard to beat that.
I have seen very few consistant issues with the new Civics, plus the 2012 is being launched very soon so Honda should be wanting to move their current stock of 2011 Civics

Thanks everyone. This is what my gut was saying , but it is great to get some other points of view.
Hey Kenny, we should do coffee sometime soon. You still in Burnaby?
