The plastic piece in my right top latch broke off and now I guess I need a whole new latch?

Did you call the dealer and get a price and see if you can just buy the cover?

it's not just the cover, unfortunately. It's the '+' - shaped plastic piece inside of the latch itself that broke, which it would appear requires a whole new latch to remedy the problem

Oh... yeah sounds like your going to need a new latch. Is your car still under warranty?

 

yeah, aftermarket warranty with $100 deductible still looking...
