Default 17" Volk CE28n: Request for Recommendation from Jim/Tire Rack, + others who may know

I have just purchased a set of 17" Volk CE28n wheels and need to get tires. My good buddy, Calis2k, has set me up with info on three tire options:

1) BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KD
2) Michelin Pilot Sport
3) Bridgeston Potenza S-03 Pole Position

My main concern is dry weather traction and general perfomance, secondly tire life-span, and finally price. All of the above tires more or less come close to the requisite specs, though the best one the BF Goodrich, are rather expensive.

QUESTION: What are other people running on 17s? Does anyone have additional recommendations?

Thanks.

Elton

For max dry weather grip import a set of Bridgestone RE-01's from Japan.

Try some of the board sponsors. As long as the tires are DOT legal (odds are that they are), then there is no problem running them. When the time comes, these could very well be the tires I get.

I'm running Toyo RA-1s on my CE28ns (235/45ZR17 & 255/40ZR17) for the summer street and track events. I'm planning to switch to Bridgestone Potenza SO-3s for the winter.

The RA-1s are R compound, but will last 5000-10,000 miles, and are significantly better in the dry than the other options.

Not for everyone, but they're fun!

I've just purchased the 17 7.5 / 9 - 50/63 offset RIMS - not totally decided on tire size - Tire is Toyo Proxys T1-S. From what I have researched - nothing is perfect - but I believe this is the best all round tire (no pun intended). The rear tire size will be 245/40/17. For the front I'm torn between the 225/45 and 215 size. Definitely not on the aggressive side - For this particular rim - tire center caps are an issue. I'll wait and see - concave caps are the only choice..

Has anybody tried the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KD ??

I heard it's a very sticky tire!

noscargo,

why not go with 255/40 for the rear? I think that is a perfect size, and allows you to get closer to the stock '25% more grip at the rear' ratio.

For the front, 225 or 215 are just about right, and shouldn't rub (my 235's do, some).

Only one type of cap will fit the S2K for this particular wheel. Look at the fine print in the Volk Racing Wheel booklet CE28N page regarding the center cap. Page 3 of the booklet features a picture of an S2K with TE37's without a cap. It looks rather bad - not sure why. As far as the 255 rear wheel option - something to consider - thanks
