Default 17's on the Front 18 on the rear

I live in New York, lots of pot holes and badly installed man hole covers or man holes without covers!
I had an Acura 3.2 TL with 17" SSR integrals and bent them a couple of times. Now, I want to smarten the S2K but feel that 17's on the front is as low a profile I want to go. The rear wheels however are not too exposed to damage as the fronts so I figure I'll go to 18s at the rear. What do you guys think 225 45 17s on the front and 245 40 18s on the rear?? This may have been covered previously but I could not find a thread. I am interested in SSR GT3's.

JIM at Tire Rack: how about a deal with some SO3s
One more questions are the SSR's lighter than the stock wheels??
